I don't mind the navel novels set in that era but just don't like that era myself. Oh I also don't really like Jane Austin, etc. Never really like pride and prejudice either I just don't understand it. Obviously slavery is not acceptable these days, but the focus on social appearances and money is pretty common. And while Georgette Heyer had impressive research skills, her access to information didn't always allow for complete accuracy, Regency Buck being a case in point (the Marine Pavilion not being refurbished as she described until the early 1820s). Yes, I've read (quite) a few bodice rippers (in the name of research, of course!) and I am stunned at how the genre has altered so far from its more chaste roots. I cannot but feel that Jane would not approve!Carolyn Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04180744278101977974noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-515660504291275491.post-21082439284603844542017-07-03T15:25:30.225+10:002017-07-03T15:25:30.225+10:00Regency is one of my favourite genres. I've read most of Georgette Heyer's Regency novels (although not all of her 1930's mysteries), and if an authors "facts" are going to disagree with Heyer's, they better have an Author's Note explaining why.

I'm interested in your distinction between Regency romance and Regency historical romance. I think my preferences run somewhere between the two - while I'm no fan of "bodice-rippers", I'm also no fan of some of the values of the Regency era, such as their double standards about the behaviour of males and females, or their attitudes to slavery.Iolahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17199141868703826943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-515660504291275491.post-42185556800524909852017-07-03T10:25:11.299+10:002017-07-03T10:25:11.299+10:00Marvellous post, Carolyn. Perhaps I should read some of Heyer's but first off I will be reading your highly rated works.

Congratulations once again on your success, Carolyn.Ian Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00192687613923596829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-515660504291275491.post-91057289242341788002017-07-03T09:18:47.900+10:002017-07-03T09:18:47.900+10:00Thanks for your post, Carolyn. I ploughed through every book of Georgette Heyer's I could find in my teens and twenties. The thought of bodice rippers - where I assume the Lydias become the heroines, does boggle my mind.
