I...Hi Jenny, thanks for sharing your heart with us. It can be helpful to view this as a gift. You have an opportunity to rework the story for a brand new audience. If you're deleting complete sub-plots or secondary viewpoint characters, you could consider reworking the deleted scenes into short stories ie. free bonus material for your newsletter subscribers. The old writing can be recycled in novel ways. :) Narellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07665380446283721576noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-515660504291275491.post-91171762413193012152017-03-31T12:30:02.961+11:002017-03-31T12:30:02.961+11:00Thanks Paula. I am happy to send you a copy of the old version if you like. I (and I know several others) can relate to you, as we've done similar trimmings and prunings, but you're talking about a lot of words! And you'll be using a different mindset to the one you used to write the novel in the first place. That's an exciting stretch. Looking forward to seeing how you go with it <3Paula Vincehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02079952414990463270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-515660504291275491.post-46432023740717929522017-03-31T12:24:28.211+11:002017-03-31T12:24:28.211+11:00Thanks Jenny! " What if I’m just trying to fit in with a market, an ideal, a publisher’s ideas of what is popular and will sell?" is a question that resonates with me. I love that God calls you to trust him in the process. Praying that you keep the heart of the story amid such radical surgery. Stepping out of the boat is both terrifying and exhilarating. And knowing He's right there with you as you cull all those words is a wonderful place to be in even if the waves get a bit rough from time to time.Ian Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00192687613923596829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-515660504291275491.post-70928515485923120812017-03-31T07:51:49.054+11:002017-03-31T07:51:49.054+11:00Thanks for sharing so honestly once again, Jenny. ...Thanks for sharing so honestly once again, Jenny. Wow, I can well imagine how daunting a task rewriting your book must seem right now--but the exciting thing is that, through all this, you will find a whole new audience for that particular book. Just a thought though--I guess it's not a possibility to divide the book into two? On the other hand, tightening up and refining your original manuscript may well make that heart of the story shine out so much more clearly.Jo-Anne Berthelsenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09775045057529728396noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-515660504291275491.post-15023225904379922822017-03-31T06:27:34.754+11:002017-03-31T06:27:34.754+11:00I love your posts, Jenny. Finding the heart of the story is such a great analogy: finding God's heart for the story itself, finding God's heart for others through it, and like you say, trusting Him as you strip away the fat and excess (70k worth! Oh my!) to find the true core. You can do it! (Hope the witty banter stays!)Carolyn Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04180744278101977974noreply@blogger.com
