Book Review: Undeniably Yours by Becky Wade

by Andrea Grigg

Amazon Summary

When Meg Cole's father dies unexpectedly, she becomes the majority shareholder of his oil company and the single inheritor of his fortune. Though Meg is soft-spoken and tenderhearted--more interested in art than in oil--she's forced to return home to Texas and to Whispering Creek Ranch to take up the reins of her father's empire.

The last thing she has the patience or the sanity to deal with? Her father's thoroughbred racehorse farm. She gives its manager, Bo Porter, six months to close the place down.

Bo's determined to resent the woman who's decided to rob him of his dream. But instead of anger, Meg evokes within him a profound desire to protect. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs to overcome every obstacle that separates them--her wealth, his unworthiness, her family's outrage--and earn the right to love her.

But just when Meg begins to realize that Bo might be the one thing on the ranch worth keeping, their fragile bond is viciously broken by a force from Meg's past. Can their love--and their belief that God can work through every circumstance--survive?

My Review

I had read Becky Wade’s debut romance novel ‘A Stubborn Heart’ and found it delightful. So when this one popped up, I downloaded it immediately.

‘Undeniably Yours’ is a contemporary romance, set in Texas against – at least to my mind – a stereotypical backdrop of oil, horses and cowboys … and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

While the novel is a light, romantic read, it doesn’t mean there isn’t any ‘takeaway’ to be had. Meg Cole’s vulnerability has her turning to God rather than trying to toughen up all by herself; Bo Porter’s feelings for Meg have him relying on God to make it work when he can’t see how their relationship could possibly succeed.

Despite Meg being a ridiculously wealthy woman, (something most of us can’t relate to) she has her share of struggles, including her battle against panic attacks, (something many can relate to). Another common problem is Meg’s issues with needing to look perfect all the time to bolster her self-esteem, the reasons for which are explained during the story. The rather delightful Bo isn’t immune to such things either – he may be an ex-veteran and a hardworking cowboy, but has problems with his own unworthiness despite his tough exterior.

We all make significant choices in life, particularly in our search for a marriage partner, and the ripple effect of Meg’s from a former relationship come back to haunt her. While primarily a romance novel, the elements of suspense in ‘Undeniably Yours’ kept me turning the pages (or should I say swiping my iPad) until the very end.

I enjoy the way Becky Wade writes. Her characters can be quirky and humorous, and sometimes do things that are unexpected. (I’ve never read a Christian romance novel where the hero is involved in a fist fight but believe me, I was on the sidelines cheering!)

I’ve heard there are further stories concerning the Porter family (Bo’s brothers and sister) in the pipeline, and I for one am looking forward to reading them. Becky Wade is establishing herself as a romance author who delivers.

  1. Excellent review, Andrea! I have yet to read any of Becky's books but I have heard how good they are so this review just confirms that. Goes well with the interview I had with Becky on this blog: http://australasianchristianwriters.blogspot.co.nz/2013/10/author-interview-becky-wade.html

And yes, I have recently discovered the second book in Porter Family series to be "Meant to Be Mine", due out in May, 2014 http://amzn.to/HK5ERm
