Tuesday Book Chat | 11 September 2018 | Iola Goulton

By Iola Goulton @iolagoulton

It's Iola here. Welcome to our ACW Tuesday Book Chat, where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Have you been to an in-store book signing?

I have to say I haven't, although that's mostly because I've never seen an in-store signing from an author I like that's close enough to attend. I do have some autographed books. Maybe we'll talk about those another time.

Please join in the conversation in a comment on this post or in a comment on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Or, if you're feeling wordy (like me), write a blog post and link to it in the comments.

Let's chat! Have you been to an in-store book signing?

  1. I managed to coordinate visits with Koorong Melbourne when Mary and Ray Hawkins were doing an in-store signing. I also went to a signing in Dymocks Adelaide for Rosanne Hawke. I have done a number of in-store signings myself in Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne, but have always found that the Australian reading public don't appear to be particularly impressed. Even after radio advertising, I found a number of friends, and 3 or 4 others who would both to come especially for it. I'm afraid what we see on television, with the long line of fans might either be fantasy or American culture. I always try to support book signings if one is going on. Paula Vince and I held a book launch together, with double the friends and family. It is a lot of work, but doesn't always generate that much interest from readers who don't know you.

  2. Does this include sports authors. I have been to many Cricket book signings (Steve Waugh, Glenn McGrath and one or two others). Also been to one at the local bookshop when it was open. Haven't been to any at Koorong as they haven't had one when I was there.
