  2. Ditto to above! Although I’d begin with Regency romance (of course!), then general historical romance, then contemporary - and then romantic suspense!

    1. Hi Carolyn, Regency is my favourite historical romance era. Contemporary romance takes the number one spot on my list. :)

  3. For me is Historical Romance. I'm sorry I really don't like Regency mostly cos of the aristocracy. I actually like a cross section and it can change at different times. I like contemporary, cosy mystery, mild suspense (Like Love Inspired Suspense), some Amish. I don't like heavy suspense, chick lit.

My favourite Historical would be civil war era, wagon train era, early life on the prairies and in the west and also love cowboy and ranching.

    1. Hi Jenny, The historical genre has a wide range of stories and time periods that provide variety. I prefer historical romance to historical fiction or non-fiction. That said, I’ve loved watching ‘The Crown’ tv series. :)

  4. I would say non-fiction along the more reflective, contemplative lines--but then that's probably not strictly a 'genre'. Oh well! I do also enjoy some Christian historical fiction, especially those set around the World War Two era.

    1. Hi Jo-Anne, I’m sure you’ll find the non-fiction you’ve described fits one or more sub-genres on Amazon. WW2 Christian historical romance is a time period I enjoy reading. :)

  6. Historical fiction that teaches me something about the times. Women's fiction that challenges my thinking on an issue. Mysteries and suspense and all without much romance.

    1. Hi Christine, One of the drawcards for me for the historical genre is the opportunity to learn more about the time period. I always read the author notes to see which elements are real or fictionalised. Stories can be very educational. :)

  7. I'm not sure I have a favourite, although I'm interested that there's such a big response for historical fiction. I agree it's great when well written. I also love a thought provoking non-fiction.

    1. Hi Paula, Historical has always been popular, along with romance. I occasionally read non-fiction but mostly read fiction. :)

  8. Interestingly enough, a recent survey showed romance as one of the top three categories, along with my favorite: suspense/thriller/mystery.

    1. Hi Richard, Yes, Romance seems to dominate sales in the fiction market. Over the years I’ve been glad to see more Christian fiction books being published in the suspense/thriller/mystery genres. :)
