What ACW can mean.

A.C.W. We know stands for Australasian Christian Writers. Being part of this team offers us the privilege of sharing our faith and the Lord’s story and gifting in and through us. Being a mere man who likes playing with and re-arranging words or initials I wondered what I could find in ACW. Then how could I apply them to our calling as writers.

As Christian Writers we are called to be Active Christian Watchmen/women. How do we exercise this duty in the midst of a spiritually Apathetic Community Worldwide? By sounding the word, the warning, the wonder of Christ Jesus through the ‘trumpet sound’ of our writings. May such stories, poems and devotions express themselves in words that Arrest, Communicate, Witness!

Today as never before we have an Amazing Cyber Way along which our stories can reach those all around the world. This has made us almost neighbours even though we may never know their name or meet them face to face. Isn’t it humbling, yet thrilling, to be watchmen/women. We know that the Captain of our Salvation and Giver of our gifting will use our ‘trumpeting’ to penetrate someone’s ear.

Therefore what are a couple of personal factors we should be alert to as ACW?

Allow Christ’s Word to penetrate your very personality and knowledge. As you thereby write, His wisdom will flavour your story with His grace and glory, the fragrance of forgiveness, the excitement and enjoyment of knowing Christ Jesus.

Answer Community Worries, their hopes and dreams with God’s relevance to everyday affairs and complexities. This is a wonderful privilege for each of us as we create our novel, poem and devotional. In a sense we write the story but it is the Lord who gives it the spiritual atmosphere appropriate for the person who reads it.

Assess Critically Words you are going to put into print. They will either arrest or repulse, uplift or cast down, bless or bruise readers and their faith searching. We know that words can either kill or make alive, convict or confuse, inspire or mire the soul. As ACW members we are glad to be Active Christian Watchmen/women using words that bless, challenge and motivate.

  4. I love this Ray! Especially "we write the story but it is the Lord who gives it the spiritual atmosphere appropriate for the person who reads it". It's a mirror of the parable of the sower, in a way :-)

  5. Good evening Ellie. You and I along with the ACW crew are definitely sowers of the Word into people's heart. It is comforting to realise it is the Lord who gives the seed growing power. Avoiding Christless Wastelands is our challenge as Christian writers who hope to make the reader's heart A Colourful Witness to God's grace. (Sorry, can't help my self.)
